Thumbprint Cookies by Jana F.

1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup brown sugar            Mix!
1 egg yoke
1/2 t vanilla

1 c flour
1/4 t salt                            Sift and stir in!


Roll into 1" balls.  Dip in slightly beaten egg whites.  Roll in finely chopped walnuts.  Place about 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake about 5 minutes.  Remove from oven.  Quickly press thumb gently on top of each cookie.  Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer.  Cool.  Place in thumbprints, tinted confectioners sugar icing.  Bake at 375.  This recipe makes 2 dozen cookies.
