Cinnamon Crackle Cookies by Marilynn K.

½ C butter, softened

½ C shortening

1 C sugar

½ C packed brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp almond extract

2 ½ C flour

3 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp baking soda

2 tsp cream of tartar

2 tsp ground nutmeg

2 tsp grated orange peel

1 tsp grated lemon peel

½ tsp salt

Additional sugar

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, shortening and sugars until light and fluffy.  Beat in egg and extracts.  Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cream of tartar, nutmeg, orange and lemon peel and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. 

 

Shape into 1 inch balls; roll in sugar.  Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.  Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned.  Remove to wire racks to cool.  Yield: about 6 dozen.
